Family Law Ruling: Conception by Turkey Baster Doesn’t Diminish a Father’s Rights

The Virginia Court of Appeals ruled on Tuesday that a woman who impregnated herself with a friend’s sperm has no right to prevent him from exercising his legal rights as the child’s father.

Since the woman took matters into her own hands with the assistance of a turkey baster and did not utilize “medical technology” as required by a Virginia Code provision that bars sperm donors from seeking custodial rights, her friend is entitled to enforce his full legal rights as the child’s biological father.
