According to the Council on Foreign Relations, the number of calls to domestic violence hotlines
has spiked during the COVID-19 quarantine, not just in the U.S. but around the world.
In response, the Women’s Funding Network has launched a campaign to increase awareness of
domestic violence and allow victims to silently signal a need for help.
With Zoom, WebEx, and Teams calls becoming the new norm in our daily lives, we should all
be more conscious of the increased possibility that one of the people on the screen may be
actively suffering from domestic violence. If you see a raised hand with a thumb tucked under
four fingers, you can call the National Domestic Violence Hotline for assistance.
